Giants Football, the Jets, Apollo Space Mission, and Round Valley Reservoir

Giants beat the New Orleans Saints, 14th birthday celebration for my son who played football this fall and high school next year. I remember the 1969 success of Joe Namath and the Jets enough to have never faltered in judging them my favorite team.

I sat down, looked at the field, and saw how a 747 would fit. I like jets more than giants as indelible symbols of civility and human achievement. What's a giant by comparison, unless his name is Orville Wright?

Jimi Hendrix wrote "Catch that Feeling," but the Jet's success in 1969 was more than a feeling. It was a wave that shot right up with the Apollo space mission.

When Joe Namath showed up on TV in panty hose, he sold something that keeps garbage collectors in business. At least nowadays visionaries think hard on what to do with dumps.

The Meadowlands stadium--I can call it that--reminded me of Round Valley with the reservoir at center. That stadium placed in the reservoir, water surface would cover all, swallow everyone and everything like the sea takes the Flying Dutchman.

So much for me and the Giants, besides that I got the rolling stones c.d. photographed at bottom as a handout.

  2. Still tip toeing cautiously! Don't know what you hate worse, Christmas trees or Superbowls!

    1. It was just a bad mood. I don't hate the Giants or Superbowls any more than I hate the fact that literary artists are marginal. And I'm not saying I'm much of a good one. How can a writer develop without a vibrant culture? Well, difficultly, and with such embarrassments as that I'll probably have to take this post out.

    2. Catherine, no one's hitting the "like" button on my FB page, but they are inside my blog. Thanks to those who like my efforts. I guess I'll leave the post up. Hate the Giants and Superbowls...everyone has their merely personal biases and I was fully aware that's all I was writing from. If I were a god who could lift the stadium up into thin air and deposit it into my favorite reservoir, where I spend time in winter among all that acreage totally alone, blissfully enjoying my trout fishing--would I do that and destroy one of my favorite places? I think you can agree that in order to be a god, rather than devil, one must be rational. Little anger here, but I don't believe the gadfly is extinct. (I buy a Christmas tree each year...)

  4. I was trying to find this earlier and asked you for the link. You told me to google "Giants Football, the Jets, the Apollo Space Mission, and Round Valley Reservoir." I found it, and added that last comment to get the notification so I could put it with the other 'important' stuff. Just organizing things today. I have the Aristotle notification too with the important stuff. Hoping this doesn't freak you out. I very much enjoy our conversations.

  5. I don't suppose there are too many philosophizing, fisherman-bloggers around?

    1. No, but most of my posts are right in the middle of fishing action.
