Pre-Spawn Spinnerbaiting for Bass on a Cool, Cloudy Evening

Fished a spinnerbait, my son a buzzbait, after sundown at our local pond.

"It's slow," I said.

"This pond is best after a hot, sunny afternoon between six and seven," Matt said. "With cooling temperatures and sunlight remaining, they really hit."

Shortly after we spoke I missed two hits by consecutive casts. Two casts later a huge wake came up behind my spinnerbait just beneath the surface. This is the only bass I caught in 20 minutes or so.

Then Matt missed a terrific strike on the buzzbait.
