Another Round Valley Reservoir Project Update

  1. Please stop posting about round valley. It’s been a hidden gem for years and should remain one. The internet exposure will ruin the smallmouth population as well as their rustic camping experience

  2. Justin, Only a very small number of followers read posts like this. And besides, Round Valley is indeed a hidden gem in the middle of the winter, at least some days, but it is, in fact, a very popular state park, and getting more popular, especially with paddle boarders and kayakers, and the like. I can promise you the smallmouth bass population, if it is ruined by lower lake level for a few years (what rock and gravel to spawn on?), won't be ruined by a lone blogger like me. Don't let the internet awe you. Most who read my posts don't act on them. I have always tested this presumption of mine by following up on the waters I write about, by going there and finding the fishing unaffected, usually seeing no one else fishing. The smallmouth population remains very healthy at present, but due to the reservoir's low fertility, the average size is small. I suggest you consider that anglers, if they don't communicate, will have no political voice. If we were to have no political voice, in fact, the fairly large number of people--their leaders stationed in universities like Princeton--who want to make fishing illegal would move in very quickly and make it illegal. Without word, only then can all your worries about their populations be relieved. Because you would not be allowed to fish them. I suggest you enjoy stories, rather than harbor too many illusions about secrets. Besides, the internet or any other means of publication cannot begin to tell all the secrets. No individual can even keep up with his own secrets. Some of must speak. What that does is give existence some form. And thereby protects it. Against people who want to reserve it exclusively for the animals, for example.
